On Friday, November 28, 2008, the Flyers introduced a striking new Third jersey that brought back memories of their Stanley Cup past.
The Flyers that night wore jerseys that replicated the style they wore during the 1973-74 season, when the Broad Street Bullies won the first of their two consecutive Stanley Cups. The Flyers wore this RBK Edge 2.0 jersey throughout their 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Nov. 28 at Wachovia Center, and again on Tuesday, Dec. 2 when they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-3 in OT at Wachovia Center.
The Philadelphia Flyers-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program is proud to offer collectors across the globe the opportunity to own a piece of history …… the actual jersey worn by #18 Mike Richards. Richards wore this jersey in both games. He scored the game-winner in overtime vs. Tampa Bay.
This Third Set 1 jersey is a Size 52 and is registered into the PHI-MGG Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program as number F04576. This jersey is one-of-a-kind, since the Flyers elected to alter the style of numbers on their Third jerseys after wearing this jersey in two games. The Flyers elected to match their 2008-09 home and road jerseys for the remaining games in which they will wear this alternate jersey. This jersey also has the captain's 'C' sewn over the left breast.
Each jersey was security-tagged before the game, and authenticated by a PHI-MGG Program Director. There was only one set of jerseys made up for these two games.
Additionally, every jersey worn throughout the 2008-09 NHL season by the Flyers contains a uniquely numbered inventory tag sewn into the jersey BEFORE IT IS WORN BY THE PLAYER ON THE ICE. This tag is equipped with covert security features regularly checked by PHI-MGG Program Directors so we can tell who wore the jersey, and when.
