The National Hockey League’s third regular-season outdoor game and second on United States soil was a classic, the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic 2009. On January 1, 2009, at The Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field on the north side of Chicago, in front of 40,818 hearty hockey fans who braved the windy 32-degree temperature, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, 6-4.

This black jersey is a Size 58 and is registered into the NHL-MeiGray Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program as number F05077. This jersey also has the captain's 'C' sewn over the left breast.
The Red Wings honored their past by donning a white-based Retro jersey with a single red body stripe inspired by sweaters worn by the club circa 1926-27. The crest featured a classic Old English D in the center, with the current Red Wings’ iconic winged wheel on each shoulder. Affixed to the right breast of each jersey was the Winter Classic 2009 patch.
The Blackhawks wore a primarily black jersey with red and beige horizontal body stripes that was worn by the club in 1936-37. The crest featured the classic version of the Blackhawks logo encircled by “Chicago Blackhawks” word mark. Affixed to the right breast of each jersey was the Winter Classic 2009 patch.

· 6 practice pucks with the unique Winter Classic 2009 logo used by the Red Wings during their outdoor practice on the Wrigley Field ice on New Year’s Eve day.

Each item was authenticated by an NHL-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program director in the stadium immediately after they were used. Each jersey has been security-tagged, serial-numbered, and registered into the NHL-MGG Population Report.
The teams each wore four sets of jerseys during the Winter Classic. The set worn in the team photograph taken before the New Year’s Eve day outdoor practice was given to the NHL Players Association. The set of jerseys worn in the first period was given to the respective organizations. The set of jerseys worn in the third period was awarded to the players for their participation, with many thanks for the memories. |
