This is the actual puck Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brett Lebda snapped past Chicago Blackhawks goalie Christobal Huet at 3:24 of the third period of the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2009 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, in front of 40,818 hearty fans who braved the windy 32-degree day.
This was the Winter Classic’s first goal awarded after video review. Lebda’s shot snuck in and out of the net so quickly, it was confirmed only after examination of the game tape. The goal gave the Wings a 6-3 lead. It was assisted by Henrik Zetterberg and Marian Hossa, each of whom assisted together on three Detroit goals in the game.
The 10 goal pucks from the Winter Classic, and five game-used pucks, were all handed directly from the ice by an on-ice official, to an off-ice official or an NHL-MGG Authentication Program director during or after the game. Every puck was immediately authenticated, identified and secured by an NHL-MGG Authentication Program director. It has been individually serial-numbered and registered by NHL-MGG as No. 135709.
The pucks used in the Winter Classic all featured the unique Winter Classic 2009 logo for this game only. |
