Last November, Glenn Anderson joined an elite group of Oilers in the Hockey Hall of Fame. On January 18, 2009 at Rexall Place, where the legendary story began, the Edmonton Oilers raised Anderson’s royal blue and orange No. 9 to the rafters.

In an inspiring, emotional and historic pre-game ceremony before the Oilers’ 6-3 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes, Anderson joined Paul Coffey, Grant Fuhr, Wayne Gretzky, Allan Hamilton, Jari Kurri and Mark Messier as Oilers who have had their numbers retired.

After players from the Oilers and Coyotes filed into their benches to watch a moving video tribute and VIP introductions, the six-time Stanley Cup champion and franchise hero surprised the crowd by hopping off the Oilers bench in full gear and completing a triumphant lap around the ice. "It's great to be back in this uniform again," Anderson said at the podium. "Putting this jersey on is like coming home and getting into your comfy clothes."
