| One of the greatest showdowns in hockey history occured when Canada faced the Soviet Union in the three game final series of the 1987 Canada Cup. The tournament highlihgted teh brilliance of two of hockey's most gifted players-Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky, marking the only time the two competed together in a meaningful contest. After the Soviets wone the first game 6-5, Canada came back hard in Game 2 jumping out to an early 3-1 lead, but the Soviets roared back to tie the game. Canada scored twice more, each time Gretzky assisting Lemieux, but the 3rd period ended in a 5-5 tie. At 10:07 of the second overtime, Gretzky and Lemieux amazingly hooked up for the 3rd time on the night to force a final deciding game. Canada would go on ot win game 3, but many believe that the second game in the series wwas the greatest game in hockey history. Celbrate these events with this commemorative frame featuring three successive celebration photos.
