Item Description:

The National Hockey League’s first regular-season outdoor game on United States soil was a classic, the AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic. The MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program is proud to offer fans and collectors across the globe the opportunity to own a piece of history … the actual jersey prepared for use by #25 Maxime Talbot of the Pittsburgh Penguins during the second period of this historic event.

What a way to ring in the New Year!! On January 1, 2008, a wintry white Buffalo, New York played hearty hosts to a game to remember at Ralph Wilson Stadium. In front of the largest crowd to ever watch a National Hockey League game, 71,217 hearty hockey fans who braved the 32-degree temperature and game-long snow flurries, the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 2-1, in a shootout.

The Penguins and Sabres honored their pasts by donning Throwback uniforms for the game. The Penguins wore the powder blue uniforms that dated to the early 1970s. The Sabres donned the royal blue and gold uniforms they wore from their inception in 1970-71 through 1995-96.

This jersey is a Size 56 and is registered into the MeiGray Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program as number E05769.

Each of the 20 jerseys worn by the Penguins during the second period of the Winter Classic, the four jerseys prepared for the Penguins who did not play in the game, the 20 pants shells worn throughout the game, the one game-issued pants shell, the three goal-scored pucks and eight of the pucks used in the game, is now up for bid.

Each item was authenticated by an NHL-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program director in the stadium immediately after they were used. Each jersey has been security-tagged, serial-numbered, and registered into the NHL-MGG Population Report.

The Penguins wore four sets of jerseys during the Winter Classic. The set worn in the photograph taken before the New Year’s Eve day outdoor practice was given to the NHL Players Association. The set of jerseys worn in the first period was given to the Penguins’ organizations. The set of jerseys worn in the third period was awarded to the players for their participation, with many thanks for the memories.
