Item Description:

The National Hockey League’s first regular-season outdoor game on United States soil was a classic, the AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic.

What a way to ring in the New Year!! On January 1, 2008, a wintry white Buffalo, New York played hearty hosts to a game to remember at Ralph Wilson Stadium. In front of the largest crowd to ever watch a National Hockey League game, 71,217 hearty hockey fans who braved the 32-degree temperature and game-long snow flurries, the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 2-1, in a shootout.

The MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program is proud to offer fans and collectors across the globe the opportunity to own a piece of history … the actual puck used by Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins to score the game-winning goal in a shootout during the 2008 NHL Winter Classic.

One thrilling shootout. One storybook finish. One historic puck.

This is the actual puck, the only puck, used throughout the shootout that decided the AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic, in front of the largest crowd in NHL history, 71,217.

Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby fired this puck between Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller’s pads for the winning goal in the Penguins’ 2-1 shootout victory over the Sabres at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

All six shootout attempts were taken with this puck:

  • Ales Kotalik snapped a wrist shot past goalie Ty Conklin, giving the Sabres a 1-0 shootout lead.
  • Erik Christensen fired a wrist shot wide of Miller’s net.
  • Tim Connolly was stopped by Conklin.
  • Kris Letang slipped a backhander past Miller, tying the shootout 1-1.
  • Maxim Afinogenov’s backhander was stopped by Conklin.
  • Crosby snapped a wrist shot behind Miller, giving the Penguins the 2-1 shootout victory.
