During the 2004-05 NHL lockout, he played overseas for Lulea HF in Sweden. He signed a one-year deal with the Hurricanes for the 2005-06 season and posted career highs in games played, goals, assists, points and penalty minutes. He scored the final goal of the 2006 Stanley Cup final and won the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes. In July 2006, he signed a five-year deal with the Hurricanes. During the 2006-07 season, Williams recorded career highs in goals, penalty minutes, power play goals and game-winning goals. He made his first appearance as an All-Star in the 2007 NHL All-Star game. In March 2009, Williams was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. He was a part of the Kings' 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup Championship teams, even winning the Conn Smythe Trophy in the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs. In July 2015, Williams signed with the Washington Capitals as a free agent. All proceeds will benefit the Kids 'N Community Foundation, the Carolina Hurricanes charitable arm.
