Eric Staal was drafted second overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He led the Hurricanes in points during the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs with 28 points and has made four All-Star appearances since 2007. He was a member of the gold medal Canadian team in the 2007 IIHF World Championship. Staal was named team captain on January 20, 2010, becoming the fifth Hurricanes captain since the team relocated to Raleigh. Jeff Skinner was drafted 20th overall in the OHL Entry Draft by the Kitchener Rangers in 2008. He led the Rangers in goal scoring in his rookie year and helped Team Canada capture gold in the 2009 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. Two years later in 2010, Skinner was drafted 7th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes. He scored his first NHL career point on October 8, 2010 with an assist on Tuomo Ruutu's goal. He scored his first NHL goal in 2010 with one second remaining in overtime against the Pittsburgh Penguins. In May 2012, the Hurricanes signed McBain to a two-year contract extension after he led all Hurricanes defensemen with 19 assists and 27 points. He temporarily played for the Finnish club Lahti Pelicans during the 2012-13 NHL lockout. McBain was traded to the Buffalo Sabres during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for defenseman Andrej Sekera.
