For the second time in three seasons, the Los Angeles Kings were crowned NHL Champions and for the second time in three seasons, an NHL season opened with the Stanley Cup glistening on the ice at STAPLES Center.
On October 8, 2014, prior to the opening of the 2014-15 NHL regular season, the Los Angeles Kings celebrated their 2013-14 Stanley Cup championship by raising the Stanley Cup banner to the rafters of STAPLES Center.
Continuing an NHL tradition introduced three seasons earlier by the Boston Bruins, the Kings highlighted this special pre-game ceremony and opened defense of their Stanley Cup vs. the San Jose Sharks by wearing a special set of game-worn jerseys throughout the ceremony and Opening Night game. Their home black jerseys included a Banner Raising Celebration patch for this game that replicated the banner raised to the roof.
