The largest crowd ever to see a hockey game, 105, 491, packed Univ. of Michigan Stadium on New Year's Day. In chilling 15-degree temperatures and light snow, the National Hockey League's sixth annual event, the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, was a thriller that saw the Toronto Maple Leafs defeat the Detroit Red Wings, 3-2, in a shootout.
The NHL-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program is proud to offer fans and collectors across the globe the opportunity to own a piece of history ... the actual jersey prepared for use by #26 John-Michael Liles of the Toronto Maple Leafs during the first period of this historic event.
This blue jersey is a Size 56 and is registered into the NHL-MeiGray Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program as number K06589.
The Red Wings wore a red jersey with beige stripes and stylized felt numbers that evoked elements of several eras, and included new striping patterns. The famed Winged Wheel crest is felt. The number style was used in 1982-83, the font of the word DETROIT dates to the 1930s, and the alternate captain and captain's letters in a diamond on the sleeve dates to the 1950s.
The Maple Leafs honored their storied history by wearing a blue and white jersey that evoked memories of their jerseys from 1930-34. Their felt crest and numbers included detailed stitching and accents.
Affixed to the right shoulder of each jersey is the 2014 NHL Winter Classic patch. NHL Winter Classic is screened into the inside back collar of each jersey. Each team wore four sets of jerseys at the Winter Classic: One for the photo shoot on Dec. 31, 2013 and the Winter Classic pre-game warmup, one in the first period, one in the second period, and one in the third period, overtime and shootout.
Here's what's up for bid from the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic:
* 18 jerseys worn by the Red Wings during the first period.
* 20 jerseys worn by the Maple Leafs during the first period.
* 8 jerseys prepared for the Red Wings who did not play, or did not wear these jerseys in the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.
* The 6 jerseys prepared for the Maple Leafs who did not play in the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.
*The 5 actual pucks used to score all 4 goals during regulation, and the shootout winner, in the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.
*The first puck used to start the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.
* 11 additional game-used pucks (3 more from the first period, 4 from the second period, and 4 from the third period) with the unique NHL Winter Classic 2014 logo used in the game.
* 20 practice pucks with the unique NHL Winter Classic 2014 logo used by the Detroit Red Wings during their practice at Univ. of Michigan Stadium on December 31, 2013.
