He led the Rangers in goal scoring in his rookie year and helped Team Canada capture gold in the 2009 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. Two years later in 2010, Skinner was drafted 7th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes. He scored his first NHL career point on October 8, 2010 with an assist on Tuomo Ruutu?s goal. Skinner scored his first NHL career goal against Jonathan Bernier in his fifth game of the season. He participated in the 2011 All-Star Game becoming the youngest All-Star selection ever.
