Sekera scored his first NHL goal on November 28, 2007 against Manny Legace of the St. Louis Blues.In 2010 he was selected to represent Slovakia in the Vancouver Olympic Games. Slovakia finished fourth. On June 30, 2013 the Carolina Hurricanes acquired Sekera from the Sabres during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
